Stories of Hope is a monthly series of blog posts from the Amos team, sharing exactly that — stories from our partners around the world, giving an insight into how they build hope in the lives of the people they work with every day.
“Mwanamke Mwenye — Superwoman”, said the 18-year-old holding her young baby; the rest of us replied, “Superwoman — Mwanamke Mwenye.” Chris Rose writes about his recent visit to Amos partner Cheka Sana Tanzania and an update from their StreetBorn programme, working with young women on the streets of Mwanza.
“A blog post entitled ‘Stories of Hope’ doesn’t feel right as I write this, as bombs fall across Gaza and we wake up bracing for bad news each morning. At the time of writing, over 6,500 people have been killed in the Gaza Strip since hostilities began on 7th October, and many more are missing under the rubble.” Karin Joseph writes about a glimmer of hope in the rubble of Gaza.
Lindo and Mpendulo from Amos partner Umthombo Street Children visited the UK from Durban, South Africa, in May this year. As well as visiting supporters nationwide, they spent time in Tower Hamlets, London, with a former Umthombo volunteer. Karin Joseph writes.
“The greatest impact on my family has been an awakening; an understanding of managing community projects; being part of small businesses in my community; relating to people from other communities; opening doors of friendship with people from my community and the surrounding communities.” Karin Joseph shares the story of one member of a rural community in Teustepe, Nicaragua, supported by Amos Trust.
“In 2022, 448 young people received vocational training from NECC. 80 graduates were placed in work placements with local businesses for on-the-job training.” Karin Joseph shares an update from our partner NECC in Gaza as part of our new Stories of Hope series.
