S5, E1: Hebron: A City Divided
Hebron: A City Divided
Tuesday 18th January 2022
Unfortunately we are unable to provide a link to this webinar.
In the first episode of our Dozen Tuesdays webinar season, we focused on the Palestinian city of Hebron and the surrounding South Hebron Hills when we were joined by members of our partner HIRN’s management team.
Hebron is unique among Palestinian cities. Its old city is split into two zones — H1 under Palestinian Authority control and H2 under full Israeli military control. Around 700 Israeli settlers live in the heart of the old city, protected by thousands of soldiers, while 40,000 Palestinians face daily restrictions, checkpoints and violence. Entire streets have been closed to Palestinians, shops have been welded shut and the city’s historic market lies abandoned.
HIRN (Hebron International Resources Network) is based in Hebron and works across the surrounding areas, offering responsive and targeted support to some of the most threatened and marginalised Palestinian communities and individuals. They bring compassion, practical help and encouragement needed to remain and grow in the face of aggression, intimidation and dispossession.
This webinar gave background on why Hebron and this region are unique, updated us on the current situation and shared stories from the communities in which HIRN works.
