The second-ever Street Child Cricket World Cup was held in Chennai, India, in September 2023, and reigning champions and Amos partner Karunalaya were the host city team!
Karunalaya used the event to challenge gender-based violence against girls and women living on Chennai’s streets, equip them to live the lives they dream of and highlight the rights of all children and families living in pavement-dwelling communities.
Street Child Cricket World Cup
September 2023
Thank you so much for joining our team as we championed Karunalaya’s campaign to continue to support girls and women. The money raised will allow them to take the success of the Street Child Cricket World Cup back into the pavement-dwelling communities these children come from.
We want to use this opportunity to show our talent in sports and speak out against the discrimination and violence we’ve experienced. Everyone is against us because we come from pavement-dwelling communities, but that needs to change. Priya
From the Street to the Stadium: Team Karunalaya
— — — — — — —
The last ball may have been bowled in the 2023 Street Child Cricket World Cup, but Karunalaya’s work on the streets of Chennai continues daily to champion the rights of girls and women. We are working with them to achieve this, but we cannot do it without you.
To show your support and come alongside them in their vital work with girls and women in pavement-dwelling communities, you can still join Team Karunalaya by:
1. Becoming a committed giver
If you become a committed giver, you will ensure that Karunalaya can continue to empower girls and women to lead the lives they dream of.
2. Giving a Digital Gift that makes a difference
Buy our digital gifts (a 3-Day Camp or Leadership Training) for your friends and family. Or why not hold a birthday fundraiser asking friends to buy you digital gifts or make donations to Karunalaya?
3. Hosting a curry night (or coffee morning)
Use our Dinner for Six pack for Indian recipe ideas, show our latest Karunalaya film and let people know about the great work of Karunalaya whilst eating delicious food. And if it’s a coffee morning, don’t forget to serve some chai!
4. Organising a cricket match
Karunalaya’s love of cricket continues! If you also love cricket, why not hold a cricket match and afternoon tea in your local area and tell people about Karunalaya’s work.
5. Donating Now
Make a donation and help Karunalaya continue its vital work.
6. Stay in touch

Cricket has changed my life completely. Because nobody respected us when we were living on the streets. But now, because of cricket, it has changed my life, now people respect us. Monisha
