40 Years of Doing Hope Saturday 20th September
This year, Amos Trust turns 40. Join us as we gather with friends, supporters, partners and special guests to look back on four decades of creativity, solidarity and hope in action.
Hebron International Resource Network (HIRN) offers responsive and targeted support to some of the most threatened and marginalised Palestinian communities and individuals. HIRN brings compassion, practical help, and encouragement needed to remain and grow in the face of aggression, intimidation, and dispossession.
Hebron International Resource Network (HIRN) offers support to Palestinian communities and individuals on the basis of need and tries to remove obstacles that prevent them from enjoying their basic human rights.
HIRN is small and agile by design and is able to respond quickly when help is needed. They manage several grassroots humanitarian and development projects at any one time, mostly in support of Palestinians living in areas where the Israeli Occupation and settlement projects are most visible and aggressive.
There are too many interventions to list here but recent projects have included:
In Area ‘C’ of the West Bank, HIRN provides:
In Hebron City:
In all of these projects, HIRN seeks to respect the dignity of the people and communities it partners with and to empower and encourage the amazing resilience that is already present.
Amos Trust’s partnership with HIRN has grown alongside our friendship and the administrative support we have provided to UK Friends of HIRN (UKFOH). Their incredible fundraising and advocacy have enabled the above projects to be delivered.
Amos has also had the opportunity to get to know HIRN on the ground in Palestine, to see the work, to meet the people and to partner in some small initiatives of our own.
Take a look through our range of resources, blog posts, downloads and products to find out more about our Palestine Justice work.
In 2009, all the main Palestinian churches came together to form Kairos Palestine. Their campaign has enjoyed recent success with the Quakers, URC and Methodists. Now see how you can become involved with Sabeel-Kairos in pressing denominations to change and with the wider work undertaken.
Israel overtly uses culture as a form of propaganda to justify its apartheid policies and occupation of the Palestinian territories. Palestinian anti-apartheid activists have called on international artists, writers, cultural institutions and those who work for them to join the cultural boycott of Israel.
Amos Trust believes that it is vital that we listen to, and act upon the Palestinian civil society call for a military embargo on Israel because of its violations of international law during its frequent attacks on Palestinians. In the UK, this campaign has been led by Campaign Against the Arms Trade, the Palestine Solidarity Campaign and War on Want.
In 2005, Palestinian civil society issued a call for a campaign of boycotts, divestment and sanctions (BDS) against Israel until it complies with international law and Palestinian rights. A truly global movement against Israeli Apartheid is rapidly emerging in response to this call.
Rebuilding demolished homes in the West Bank is a powerful challenge to injustice and a profound act of solidarity. Each block we carry, each bucket of cement we mix, are much more than just materials — they are made of stuff that really matters.
Our second book of poetry, prose, creative writing and reflection is now available. ‘Seeds Of Hope: More Thoughts and Reflections from Amos Trust’ has contributions from Zena Kazeme, Arundhati Roy, Ben Okri, Cornel West, Angela Davis, Robert Cohen, Maya Angelou and our partner Abdelfattah Abusrour. “What a wonderful collection of writing — rich, deep, broad, funny, touching, angry, and, most importantly, encouraging.” Brian Eno — producer, musician, writer and artist.
A delicious way to fundraise. Hosting a Palestinian supper club is a great way to celebrate culture, community and solidarity. Serve traditional dishes like Qalaya, Makloubeh, Mujaddara and Basboosa, while sharing stories of Palestinian heritage. Partner with local chefs or home cooks to create a truly authentic experience.
