The Marathon

The Palestine Marathon brings together 10,000 runners from across the globe to celebrate the right to movement in a city hemmed in by the Separation Wall and Israel’s illegal settlement-building programme.

We’ve been taking runners to the Palestine Marathon since its inception in 2011. Organised by the Palestine Olympic Committee, the Bethlehem Marathon offers a unique running experience with full marathon, half marathon and 10km distances.

Team Amos: Join us in Bethlehem this April to run in solidarity

The race starts in Manger Square, at the Church of the Nativity in the heart of Bethlehem’s Old City. The route takes you through Bethlehem, past Aida and Dheishe refugee camps, Banksy’s Walled Off Hotel and along the Israeli Separation Wall.

There aren’t 26 miles of continuous Palestinian state. So the route runs out as far as the turning onto Route 60 — the bypass road to Hebron — before doubling back to Manger Square to complete the 21km half marathon distance. Those doing the full marathon complete that circuit twice. It’s a technical course at 1,000m altitude, and you’re unlikely to clock a personal best — unless it’s your first marathon!

“I felt like I’d been run over by a bus the next day but I wouldn’t have changed it for the world. I loved raising money, I loved being in Palestine and seeing where the money I had raised for Amos was going, I loved doing the run and I loved being part of the team. And I really really really loved all those falafels.”
