When words fail, art speaks.

Amos Trust has been developing links and building relationships with the visual arts community in Gaza since 2015. In September 2022, we brought Gazan art out from under siege and into the light.

Forty-nine artists from Gaza, many previously unknown to international audiences, exhibited their work in person at The Walled Off Hotel and Gallery in Bethlehem. This landmark physical exhibition brought together an unprecedented number of Gazan artists in one space — a rare opportunity for their work to be seen beyond the blockade.

Working with our friends at The Walled Off, we aimed to introduce the broader international community to leading visual artists from Gaza and to explore the motivations, frustrations and realities of creating art under siege and occupation.

Colours of Gaza was a partner exhibition to On Location, our online gallery which we launched in autumn 2021. Since the devastating war that began in October 2023, many of Gaza’s artists have been displaced, injured or killed, and the territory’s cultural infrastructure has been systematically destroyed. Preserving and sharing their work has never been more urgent.
