We will follow the Via Francigena through Pas de Calais and then the Somme region with its frequent reminders of the First World War and the conflict that spawned the 1917 Balfour Declaration. We then move into the Champagne region before crossing the Jura Mountains and on into Switzerland.
Camping on the shores of Lake Geneva we will cross Switzerland to the Walk's high point of the Col-Grand St Bernard at 2,469m before coming down the Aosta Valley into Italy. We will then walk down the Po Valley and follow the Via Francigena to Fidenza (just south of Piacenza) where we will take the Via Emilia towards Rimini.
We will then walk through the beautiful Italian cities of Parma, Modena and Bologne passing by the Imola circuit before heading down the Adriatic Coast just south of Rimini. Our time in Italy ends in Ancona where we catch the ferry to Durres in Albania.
We now follow the Ancient Roman Via Egnatia to Istanbul. The first week is through Albania to Lake Ohrid where we enter Macedonia. We then travel further south entering Greece and coming to the ancient Port of Thessaloniki, where we will spend two days with musicians and other artists in the refugee camp there.
For the next month our route passes along the Aegean Sea entering into Turkey and finally arriving in Istanbul. We will fly from Istanbul to Amman in Jordan, from there we will walk to the Allenby Bridge and cross into the West bank.
We will spend a week walking through the West Bank meeting local communities and hearing their stories before reaching a climax in the Old City of Jerusalem on 2nd November where we will remember the Balfour Declaration signed exactly 100 years previously.
Please make sure that you read the Just Walk Terms and Conditions before you make your booking. This is not one of those standard T&C's documents that we usually scroll through and tick, hoping for the best. This document contains essential information about Just Walk which you will need to read.
The maximum number of people we can take for this stage is twenty. Therefore, making your booking and paying your deposit does not guarantee participation in this stage. We will contact you to confirm that your booking has been successful and to ask you to provide further essential information.
*The current total price of £8,000 includes transfers to Albania and Jordan. We are looking to reduce this total figure if we possibly can.
