Camila Jaber
Mexico

“Our planet’s future is created by each one of us living in the present. My motivation is in the belief that the deeper I dive, the louder the message of water becomes.”

About Camila

I’m  28-years-old, born on the Gulf of Mexico and raised in the Caribbean. I studied a degree focused on water resources, but I found my community and my path in collective activism, supporting territorial defence in the Yucatán Peninsula from an urban perspective. I’m part of the SOS Cenotes Collective, which is also connected to the Red de Resistencias Sur Sureste en Defensa de la Vida y los Territorios.

I discovered the underground waters as a sanctuary, where I practise freediving — a sport that has connected me deeply with this element and heightened my commitment to protecting it. I currently hold the national record at 85 metres on a single breath.

I’ve created short films using my  art and sport to tell stories as a way to engage people’s emotions, raise awareness and communicate complex issues. My piece Yo soy cenote won the CreateCOP26 contest at COP26, highlighting cenotes as living beings with their own stories.

Climate Fellowship Cohort 2024/25

Climate change is a justice issue

Those who have the least political and economic power, and the least responsibility for the changing climate, are affected the most.

CEPAD

We partner with CEPAD in Nicaragua to empower seven communities in Teustepe with the skills, knowledge and community resilience required to address their own problems.

Once In A Lifetime

A short social-friendly snippet from Amos Trust’s Once In A Lifetime climate justice summit in Cambridge when we were joined by climate activists, thinkers and doers.

Donate

We support rural communities in Nicaragua through our partner CEPAD but we can’t do it without your help. Every penny goes to supporting those most affected by climate change.
