Every October, we ask women in the UK to stand in solidarity with women in Gaza by hosting fundraising events throughout the Autumn or by donating to our Women 4 Women Appeal. So many people ask about this campaign all year round so we are more than happy for you to support this amazing work at any time of year.

Every year, to mark breast cancer awareness month (or Rosy October as it’s called in Gaza), we ask women to come together to do something they love, to raise awareness and vital funds to help the women of Gaza to access the breast cancer screening programme at Al Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza City.
Past events have included coffee mornings, art exhibitions, gigs, Palestinian dinners, clothes swaps, exhibitions, gin tasting, marathons, interactive installations and church services. Just £60 provides breast cancer screening and support for one woman in Gaza.

Screening is so simple and so effective — if we can work with women so that they can identify breast cancer early, we can treat it. We need to make screening normal for women and change traditional attitudes. At the moment too many die, they are scared that if diagnosed they will be shunned by their families. Our partner, NECC/DSPR Gaza, began providing post-traumatic psychotherapeutic support following the 2008 Gaza conflict to children (and their mothers) and young people involved in their youth training programme. Initially considered a temporary programme, they soon realised that in Gaza, trauma is an ongoing condition, leading to the continuous provision of their psychosocial support programmes since then. On 17th October, 2023, we received the devastating news of a strike on our partner, Al Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza City, which tragically claimed hundreds of lives. Remarkably, the hospital reopened the next day to continue treating patients. Read our update on the current situation.

Our current projects in Gaza include ‘On Location’, showcasing the best visual artists from the region, promoting breast cancer screening, supporting employment training for young people and helping the Gazan Paralympic cycling team (The Gaza Sunbirds) in their dream of reaching the 2024 Paralympics in Paris.
Amos Trust and our friends and partners fear what the coming days will bring in Gaza and across Israel and the West Bank. We call for a cessation of violence, the creation of humanitarian corridors, the release of hostages, that all parties are held accountable under international law and a renewed effort to establish a just, long-term peace.
