Alrowwad Cultural and Arts Society is based in Aida refugee camp in Bethlehem. It provides dynamic community arts projects, promoting the cultivation of creativity as an alternative to violence. They call it ‘beautiful, non-violent resistance’ to empower children, young people and women.
As well as offering a child-centred, safe and inclusive space, the centre uses creative opportunities as a platform through which individuals can build confidence, express themselves and tell their stories – through theatre, dance, music, photography and film.
Artistic performances have toured throughout Palestine, as well as many countries in Europe and America, helping to raise awareness and preserve Palestinian traditional culture.
In addition to providing free pioneering training, equipment and supportive education, the centre runs an outreach programme to marginalised villages and refugee camps in the West Bank, where they partner with nurseries, schools and cooperatives to perform, exhibit and provide training and resources as needed.
Training programmes have also been developed to acknowledge and support the specific needs of women, including computer training, job creation projects, fitness and empowerment programmes. These help to reinforce the value of the women’s role in the community by improving their self confidence and encouraging their creativity.

Israel overtly uses culture as a form of propaganda to justify its apartheid policies and occupation of the Palestinian territories. Palestinian anti-apartheid activists have called on international artists, writers, cultural institutions and those who work for them to join the cultural boycott of Israel.
Amos Trust believes that it is vital that we listen to, and act upon the Palestinian civil society call for a military embargo on Israel because of its violations of international law during its frequent attacks on Palestinians. In the UK, this campaign has been led by Campaign Against the Arms Trade, the Palestine Solidarity Campaign and War on Want.
In 2005, Palestinian civil society issued a call for a campaign of boycotts, divestment and sanctions (BDS) against Israel until it complies with international law and Palestinian rights. A truly global movement against Israeli Apartheid is rapidly emerging in response to this call.
Rebuilding demolished homes in the West Bank is a powerful challenge to injustice and a profound act of solidarity. Each block we carry, each bucket of cement we mix, are much more than just materials — they are made of stuff that really matters.

Campaigning on Palestine requires a combination of awareness-raising, and advocacy — and being fed in such a way to be able to keep going. Amos Trust seeks to find creative ways to raise awareness, educate and challenge stereotypes by giving a voice to the voiceless and working alongside our partners in the West Bank and Gaza. Last month, Amos’ Megan Williams joined the Gaza Sunbirds para-cycling team in Zurich, as Alaa Al Dali, the original Sunbird, made a historic debut and became the first cyclist to compete for Palestine at the UCI Cycling Road and Para-cycling World Championships. Read the full story.
“In 2022, 448 young people received vocational training from NECC. 80 graduates were placed in work placements with local businesses for on-the-job training.” Karin Joseph shares an update from our partner NECC in Gaza as part of our new Stories of Hope series.
“A blog post entitled ‘Stories of Hope’ doesn’t feel right as I write this, as bombs fall across Gaza and we wake up bracing for bad news each morning. At the time of writing, over 6,500 people have been killed in the Gaza Strip since hostilities began on 7th October, and many more are missing under the rubble.” Karin Joseph writes about a glimmer of hope in the rubble of Gaza.
