War and poverty forced Innocent to live on the streets of Bujumbura, Burundi aged 4. He faced capture and punishment from the authorities and aggression from older boys; he would struggle to find food and shelter.
Amos Street Justice partners work with children, using local responses to engage with children, address their trauma, and give them the support they need to leave the streets.
Innocent never thought he would ever leave Burundi, let alone play football representing his country in the Street Child World Cup, or visit the UK to learn English and share his experiences with us at Amos Day 2015.
Innocent now works as part of New Generation’s Outreach team, engaging with other street-connected children currently surviving on the streets.
Our range of resource and fundraising packs, blog posts, downloads and products have been produced to help you find out more about Amos Street Justice.
The second-ever Street Child Cricket World Cup was held in Chennai, India, in September 2023, and reigning champions and Amos partner Karunalaya were the host city team! Karunalaya used the event to challenge gender-based violence against girls and women living on Chennai’s streets, equip them to live the lives they dream of and highlight the rights of all children and families living in pavement-dwelling communities.
Amos Trust brought together women from 8 countries who work with girls on the streets. Girls who face child marriage, prison or are involved in sex work. They shared new ways of working, with a collective vision to see girls live free from abuse. This is their story.
Thank you to those who joined our team and supported Karunalaya from the streets to the stadium. Their work continues every day to secure the rights of girls and women in Chennai’s pavement-dwelling communities. Please join Karunalaya by becoming a committed giver today, enabling this vital work to continue and watch our short film.
Welcome to the first On Her Terms update of 2019. This year marks 30 years since the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. This landmark in children’s rights has remained a hugely important reference point for those working for justice for children and young people.
