Her Reflection

Her Reflection
From our book, Seeds Of Hope

Sing daughter sing
make a song and sing
beat out your own rhythms
the rhythms of your life
but make the song soulful
and make life sing

Another world is not only possible, she is on her way
On a quiet day I can hear her breathing

We have been shown what is good
May we act justly, love mercy and walk humbly

If you have come here to help me, you are wasting your time
But if you have come because your liberation is bound up with mine,
then let us work together

Today, we stand with children all over the world
We stand with those whose dreams have been fulfilled
We stand with those whose dreams will come to pass
We stand with those whose dreams are locked inside
We stand with those who dare not dream

There’s really no such thing as the “voiceless”
There are only the deliberately silenced, or the preferably unheard
We think of our sisters who have to survive on the streets
We cry out against the way they are judged
We cry out against the way they are treated
We recognise the choices they have made
We recognise the mistakes they have made
We stand in awe of their resilience
We weep the tears they are no longer able to cry

This day
May we not accept the things we cannot change
May we change the things we cannot accept
And may we keep on doing it all the time

— Alternative for women’s only meeting —

{Start}

As a woman I have no country
As a woman I want no country
As a woman my country is the whole world

{End}

When women come together extraordinary things happen
We will not accept the things we cannot change
We will change the things we cannot accept
And we will do it all the time
So beware our smile

Amen
