Col du Tourmalet Challenge
16th–17th June 2025
The café on Mont Ventoux burst into applause when they heard what Anne was doing. “She is 82? And she is cycling the Beast of Provence? For Gaza? Chapeau!”
Last summer, Anne M Jones — grandmother, retired social worker and psychotherapist — cycled 1,900m up to the summit of Mont Ventoux. She was 82. She did it because she was horrified by the genocide in Gaza.
She raised £25,000 for Amos Trust’s work with traumatised children and for the Gaza Sunbirds para-cycling team. A year on, the situation in Gaza is even worse — no aid has been allowed in since the 2nd of March and the entire population is being starved.
An Active Force: “Like millions of others, I weep inside daily for the horrific situation in Gaza that’s getting worse by the day.” Anne M Jones

So Anne is back, now 83, with an even tougher challenge: to ride up the mighty Col du Tourmalet in the French Pyrenees.
At 2,115 metres, it’s the highest paved pass in the Pyrenees. When it was first included in the Tour de France, riders thought it was madness. “Vous êtes des assassins! Oui, des assassins!”
This year, the challenge is steeper. And the humanitarian need is even greater.
“Like millions of others, I weep inside daily for the horrific situation in Gaza that’s getting worse by the day. Hope is an active force. So, at 83, I respond how I know best — by cycling up a mountain. Fueled by outrage and by the determination to raise money for Amos’ partners in Gaza, who live in hope every single day.”

Please support Anne as she aims to raise £21,150 — that’s £100 for every metre climbed — for our Gaza appeal.
