Each year we organise guided trips and tours for people to visit our partner projects around the world. These trips enable people to spend time with our local partners to really grasp first-hand the issues they face and better understand the unique ways they are choosing to respond to very difficult circumstances.
Amos Trust ‘Taste of Palestine’ culinary trips are based in the kitchens, restaurants and markets of Bethlehem and Nazareth. We cook in local homes, delight in traditional dishes and get to grips with the issues around the kitchen table. We spend time travelling up through the West Bank, meeting local farmers and hearing about the constraints and difficulties they face on a daily basis.
Alrowwad Centre for Culture and Arts is based in Aida refugee camp in Bethlehem. It provides dynamic community arts projects, promoting the cultivation of creativity as an alternative to violence. They call it ‘beautiful, non-violent resistance’ to empower children, young people and women. Watch a short film about their work.
Holy Land Trust, in Bethlehem, enables creative programmes and projects — both locally and globally — that foster understanding, healing and empowerment of individuals and communities affected by the Israeli occupation. Their community outreach team works tirelessly to strengthen communities and to unite local people in acts of non-violent resistance against the occupation.
A highlight of Amos’ calendar, the Bet Lahem Live Arts Festival is one of the best ways to see and celebrate Palestinian culture at its most exuberant. Set in the heart of Old Bethlehem and nestled in amongst the historic winding streets, this weekend long, giant street party is crammed to the brim with local and international music, art and dance.
Amos Home Rebuild trips are an opportunity to bring hope to a Palestinian family and community by helping them to rebuild their demolished home. We challenge the injustice of home demolitions, deepen our understanding of the situation and build deep and lasting relationships with the communities we become part of.
Situated right by one of Bethlehem’s main checkpoints and the Separation Wall, the Wi’am Centre has a community garden complete with children’s play area, which is overlooked by a military watchtower. Wi’am Conflict Resolution Centre is our oldest partner in Palestine and provides an oasis for Palestinian communities in and around Bethlehem.
Amos Alternative Pilgrimages offer the chance to meet our inspiring partners and peacemakers from all communities, see the situation for yourself and explore Jerusalem, Bethlehem, Nazareth and Galilee. See for yourself the injustice of occupation and the seeds of hope in the vision of those striving for a better future.
We work alongside grass-roots partners in Palestine, South Africa, Nicaragua, Burundi, India and Tanzania.
