In Gaza, a breast cancer diagnosis can be a death sentence. Not because the disease is untreatable — but because everything standing between diagnosis and treatment has been stripped away.

Hope For Her is our answer: solidarity in action. All of us — friends, families, communities — standing with the women of Gaza who are fighting for the healthcare every woman deserves.

Breast cancer kills more women in Gaza than any other disease. Five-year survival rates sit at just 30–40%, against 87% in the UK. That gap isn’t medical — it’s political.

What’s standing in the way?
Blockade and conflict have built a wall between women and the care that could save them

• No education, no awareness
  Fear and stigma mean 60% of cases aren’t caught until stage three, when treatment is far less likely to work
• Treatment cut short
  Chemotherapy drugs arrive in four-week supplies only, thanks to Israeli restrictions, interrupting or ending treatment altogether
• No radiotherapy, anywhere in Gaza
  The radioisotopes it needs are barred entry by Israeli authorities, forcing women to seek permits to reach East Jerusalem instead
• Permission denied
  Over 28% of women who apply to travel for treatment are refused, or simply never hear back

Women are dying of something entirely preventable. Or surviving with the scars of medical techniques the UK abandoned decades ago. There’s no excuse for it.

Al Ahli Hospital

Al Ahli Arab Hospital doesn’t wait for women to find their own way to help — it goes out and finds them. Working with 35 community groups across Gaza, the hospital’s breast cancer programme reaches 5,000 women a year with awareness and education, and screens 3,000 women over forty annually.

It breaks the silence around breast cancer, for women and men alike. It catches the disease early, when it’s still beatable. And it gives women a fighting chance.

• a gin and nibbles evening

Share what you learn about breast cancer in Gaza and Al Ahli’s work with your guests. Ask them to give what they’d have spent on a night out — and watch it turn into something that saves lives.

The current situation

Al Ahli Hospital was hit eight times during the bombardment of Gaza. Screening stopped. Trauma and emergency care took over, because it had to. Now, as the situation stabilises, every pound raised through Hope For Her helps bring screening back — and with it, the chance for women in Gaza to catch this disease before it’s too late.
