We joined our good friends Jeff Halper and Linda Ramsden from the Israeli Committee Against Home Demolitions (ICAHD) to discuss why Israel pursues the policy of home demolition both within the Occupied Palestinian Territory and the state of Israel, its devastating impacts and the actions they are involved in to challenge this practice.

 

Home demolitions are a weapon of displacement. Families receive demolition orders — often because they built on their own land without impossible-to-obtain permits, or as collective punishment for a family member’s actions. Bulldozers arrive, homes are destroyed and families are left traumatised and homeless. Since 1967, Israel has demolished over 50,000 Palestinian homes.

 

We also discussed with Jeff and Linda the response within Israel to Amnesty International joining other leading humanitarian organizations in identifying Israel as an apartheid state, and ICAHD’s connection to the One Democratic State Campaign — from the River to the Sea — and why they believe this is the only way to ensure full equal rights for Palestinians and Israelis.
