S4, E6: In Conversation with Sami Awad
In Conversation with Sami Awad
Tuesday 18th May 2021
Sami Awad from Holy Land Trust in Bethlehem updated us on the current situation in Palestine as things in East Jerusalem and Gaza continued to escalate.
In May 2021, tensions exploded after Israeli forces attacked worshippers at Al-Aqsa Mosque during Ramadan and threatened families in Sheikh Jarrah with forced evictions. Gaza came under devastating bombardment. The violence was intense and the world was watching.
Sami, whose family fled Jerusalem in 1948, spoke with Amos Director Chris Rose, Charlotte Marshall from Sabeel-Kairos and Jess Foster about what was happening on the ground. He shared news of his friends and family in Gaza, reflected on the current situation and answered questions from viewers.
As founder of Holy Land Trust, Sami has spent decades advocating for nonviolent resistance and Palestinian rights. This conversation captured a moment of crisis and offered perspective from someone living through it in Bethlehem.
Our guests:
- Sami Awad: Founder and Director, Holy Land Trust, Bethlehem
